Lower Alabama Cities I’d Move to Again: 5 Places That Still Make Sense After 10 Years

After a decade of living in and around Lower Alabama, one thing is clear: where you live shapes how you live. Over the years, I’ve watched towns grow, neighborhoods evolve, and communities mature in ways that actually improved day-to-day life instead of complicating it. If I had to pack up and choose again today, these are the five Alabama cities I’d move to again—without hesitation.

Not because they’re trendy.
Not because they’re perfect.
But because they’ve proven they can grow and keep their soul.

1. Fairhope – For Charm That Never Gets Old

Fairhope is the kind of place that still feels intentional. The downtown is walkable and full of personality, the bay views never stop being impressive, and the community leans artsy without trying too hard.

Why I’d choose it again:

  • Strong schools and community pride
  • A downtown that feels alive, not commercial
  • Events, parks, and public spaces that actually get used
  • A balance of small-town feel with upscale touches

It’s the city you pick when lifestyle matters as much as the house itself.

2. Daphne – For Everyday Ease

Daphne doesn’t shout for attention, and that’s exactly why it works. It’s practical in the best way: central, comfortable, and easy to live in.

Why I’d choose it again:

  • Quick access to shopping, dining, and healthcare
  • Great mix of older neighborhoods and new builds
  • Easy commute to Mobile
  • Solid schools and parks

Daphne is the “everything is just… easier” kind of city.

3. Spanish Fort – For Structure and Stability

Spanish Fort has grown a lot, but it’s grown with a plan. Wide roads, well-designed neighborhoods, and newer school campuses make it feel organized and forward-looking.

Why I’d choose it again:

  • Master-planned communities
  • Strong school system
  • Close to shopping and major highways
  • Clean, suburban feel

It’s ideal if you like order, convenience, and newer infrastructure.

4. Foley – For Value and Momentum

Foley is one of the most underrated cities in Lower Alabama. It’s been quietly transforming over the last decade with new construction, retail growth, and expanding neighborhoods.

Why I’d choose it again:

  • More affordable housing options
  • New communities still being built
  • Close to beaches and entertainment
  • Family-oriented areas with room to grow

It’s the city you pick when you want upside without the premium price.

5. Gulf Shores – For a Lifestyle Shift

Gulf Shores isn’t just a vacation spot anymore. It’s become a real community for people who want daily life to feel different than the norm.

Why I’d choose it again:

  • Beach access as part of daily routine
  • Outdoor-centered lifestyle
  • Tourism-driven economy with year-round residents
  • Strong short-term and long-term housing demand

It’s not for everyone—but if you love water, sunshine, and movement, it’s hard to beat.

What These Cities All Have in Common

Even though they’re different, these five cities share the same core strengths:

  • Strong community identity
  • Access to water and outdoor life
  • Manageable growth
  • Lower cost of living than many coastal states
  • A pace that feels livable, not rushed

They’ve changed over the last 10 years—but in ways that added opportunity instead of stress.

Why I’d Choose Them Again

Because life here works.

You can own a home without being house-poor.
You can know your neighbors without feeling isolated.
You can enjoy nature without giving up convenience.
You can slow down without falling behind.

Ten years later, these cities still make sense—not just emotionally, but practically.

If I were starting over today, these are the places I’d look first. Here’s a full YT video of us explaining more. Check it out!
